When you pull up to your favorite coffee shop, you’re probably thinking about starting your morning with a fresh, hot cup of coffee to get you through the busy day ahead. What you’re not thinking about is the health benefits that your caffeine fix could provide. Multiple researchers have published studies in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), finding that, in moderation, coffee drinkers may experience more health benefits than those who don’t drink coffee.
The caffeine in coffee is a natural stimulant. Drinking one to two cups daily can help improve memory, mood, and overall mental functions while giving you energy. Nutrition experts from John Hopkins University School of Medicine have cited it as “contain[ing] antioxidants and other active substances that may reduce internal inflammation and protect against disease.”
So, refresh your cup, and see how coffee could help you get through your day and your life.
Longer Life:
Studies found that coffee drinkers were less likely to die from some of the leading causes of death, especially in women – including heart disease, kidney disease, and strokes.
Prevent and lower the risk of diseases:
Regular coffee drinking has been linked to a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease as well as Parkinson’s disease.
Reduced risk of type 2 diabetes:
Studies conducted by Harvard researchers in 2014 found that people who consume more than one cup of coffee a day (over four years) had an 11% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Alternatively, the opposite was true: when people lowered their coffee consumption by more than a cup a day, it increased the possibility of developing type 2 diabetes by 17%.
Reduced risk of cancer:
Coffee drinking has been shown to lower the risk of two of the leading causes of cancer related deaths in the world – lover cancer and colorectal cancer.
Promote heart health:
Drinking coffee has been linked to a reduction in a person’s long-term risk of heart failure. One possible cause is coffee improving blood vessels’ control over blood flow and pressure.
While beneficial to your health, it’s important not to go overboard if you want to reap the pros of coffee. Go ahead, savor every sip.
